The Artist Bio

Art is not what you see, but what you make others see—Edgar Degas

Wilhelmina or “Mina” started her art journey later in life. Her life experiences have informed
her perception of the world and her artistic voice. In her former life, she read images in black
and white, and shades of gray, and witnessed daily the fragility of life.

Now, she seeks awe and wonder in unexpected places, the mundane and everyday
objects, as well as beauty in the imperfect. She is drawn to memento mori and vanitas art
which remind us of the transience of life and our mortality.

For the past 7 years, she has studied at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Studio School and
Visual Arts Center of Richmond. Her body of work focuses on representational landscapes,
botanicals, still lifes, and figure drawing, and continues to evolve. She works in oil, watercolor,
and charcoal. Her goal is to capture emotions and experiences not easily expressed in words.
